Yep, another World War II themed animation. I hope this won’t make anybody think that I’m pro-war or something. I’m not! I’m just really fascinated by the history. Which should be understandable considering that I live in an area that was occupied by the Germans during the war.Anyway, I didn’t really set any goals that […]
A really short video showing a guy walking through some sci-fi corridor environment. I put this together really fast to mess around a bit with a new fog add-on for Blender that I wanted to try out. The outcome doesn’t at all look that bad in my opinion, so I decided to post it. The […]
This building exists at the edge of my hometown. It was built as a communications bunker by the Germans during World War II. I wrote a separate blog post on the building’s history in a blog post here. Luckily, I was allowed to investigate the building in its current state and take some pictures. Many […]
This is a continuation of something I’ve been working on earlier. I added a scene where a sailor, that looks suspiciously a lot like me, is working on releasing several depth charges. Animating this character was a pain in the butt since the ship is moving up and down following the ocean waves. I also […]
I’ve been postponing learning how to animate the tracks of a tank, but I finally got around to do it. This video obviously proves that. It is a first render, and I’m not at all pleased with the animation, but I don’t think I’ll continue working on it so there you have it. I am […]
Perhaps you noticed earlier that I made a replica of the old Eindhoven Airport. I wanted to make an animation around it, so I downloaded a model of a Heinkel HE 111 plane from Sketchfab and got to work. First, I edited the model of the plane, so I could animate the propellers and landing […]
I wrote a separate blog post here about this scene, and it contains background information on the building and the history. I began by searching for reference images, since this is a real building that is still standing. For me, this was the first time that I used the Blender add-on Archimesh. I kicked myself […]
This fun little project was made with the help of the WoW Export Tool and WoW model viewer. The bike was downloaded from Sketchfab. I already had a rigged model of my Paladin from earlier projects. So this was all put together rather fast. I rigged the bike using the Blender add-on rig-a-car, which is […]
This short video was done rather fast as I already built my desk for a different project, so all I did was add a new model of myself to the scene. The fbx file containing the typing animations I also created a while ago so adding it to the model was also easy since I only had to import the animation to the model.
I started this project because I wanted to practice building a simple building, like the infamous gate-building of Auschwitz. Once I was done with the building, I added the train tracks, and doing so resulted in me wanting to add a train as well, and after that it all just gotten out of hand.
I read somewhere that they are going to demolish this building, and since I have some fond memories that originate in this building, I decided to build it in 3D. I used the photo’s that are included as comparison to build this model.
I really liked how it looked so I decided to add all sorts of stuff and transform the model in to an old Russian room during the cold war. Also I added a cloth simulation to the curtain so it moves in the wind. For me this was mostly a project that allowed me to fool around with cloth simulating, but also lighting.
I feel like I’ve discovered a holy grail of some sorts. My computer is not a very recent one. It’s a Core i7, but from an early generation, and it has 32 gigs of RAM. And most importantly for rendering, it has an Nvidia Titan X graphics card. This card is a couple of years […]
I finally finished a new render for the Birkenhof animation. It took about three nights of rendering. All the edited and newly added content to the scene, like the plants for example, are shown in this new render, so in my opinion it looks at lot better as the previous animation. In case you’ve already […]
Similar to what I did for the previous post on the bunker in Valkenswaard, I’m writing another article where I will tell you about the history behind a building that I built in 3D as a replica. In this post, it’s regarding the Venbergse Molen. Molen translates to mill. Take a look at this page […]
I wrote this post in relation to a portfolio item that I recently posted, to talk a bit about the history of the building that I’ve built in 3D. Make sure to have a look at the Birkenhof portfolio page when you’re done here. There’s also a gallery at the bottom of this page. I […]
I have a list of things that I want-to-have, and on that list is this “mouse”. It’s not a regular mouse, but a 3dconnexion SpaceMouse. It’s actually a mouse that works alongside a default mouse and partly replaces the keyboard when you’re working in 3D apps like Blender. You use it with your left hand, […]
For a recent project I made a 3D replica of the very first airport building at the airport of Eindhoven city. You can have a look at the project on the portfolio page. I felt like sharing a couple of things that I did not want to include on the portfolio page. I want to talk about the building itself in more details because I learned a thing or two about the history when I was investigating it. I accidentally stumbled upon an image of the old airport building when I was researching something on World War II. It triggered my curiosity since it’s regional history for me as it is located in my own back
I put a lot of time in my Auschwitz project. Too much time perhaps. I have a fascination for everything that is related to world war II. I guess this fascination grew because I live in the Netherlands, where our grandparents experienced the war at first hand. Also, right outside the town where I live […]
I don’t know! You tell me! It’s very common for people to loose the ability to objectively judge their own work when they’ve spent a lot of time on it. Perhaps you will recognize that sometimes your work seems to be awe full when you look at it at the end of pulling an all-nighter. […]
For some reason, a lot of people often think that I’m a lazy person who has too much time on his hands. And in all honesty, I am indeed really lazy, but that doesn’t mean I don’t do things… I do them in the most optimized way I could come up with, and in that […]
This tutorial explains how to rotate any wheel on its X axis based on its Y location. Or the other way around. In this example, we’ll be rotating it on its X axis. Scroll down for the step-by-step guide. In order to see the video, you’ll probably need to click the button below first to […]
Here I show how to easily rig any car model that you want, by using the free add-on Rig-a-car. Download the add-on from this website: http://digicreatures.net/articles/rigacar.html. You will probably have to click the button below to allow the video to play back from YouTube. If this doesn’t work for you, here’s a link to the […]
